…and one of them was salt’s positive effect on the airways. The tale then jumps to 1843, when a Polish doctor documented how salt mine workers didn’t seem to suffer from the same respiratory problems as the general population. Salt Therapy generated in a controlled environment began in 1989 in Russia. The first Salt Cave opened in 2008 in the UK.
After becoming passionate about the efficacy of Salt Therapy, founders Denes Gal and Sofia Benke began a journey of consultation with scientists and doctors to develop Breeze Tronic Pro, the most sophisticated technology for replicating a salt cave.
Strategic sensors are just one of the ways the salt levels in the atmosphere are continually monitored in our treatment rooms. Breeze Tronic Pro is far superior to cheaper options, which are ineffective and potentially harmful.
Salt has the following properties:
While relaxing in one of our treatment rooms, customers inhale the dry, salt-enriched air deep down into the lungs, where the healing benefits do their greatest healing. The salt loosens the mucus, which begins to clear quickly, and inflammation is reduced, which makes more room in the airways for you to breathe. Symptoms subside, sometimes for up to 12 months.

In 2011 The Salt Cave was invited by the NHS to participate in a pilot project, as part of the Personal Health Budget program, to provide therapy for a COPD sufferer, called Clara Buffong. The NHS paid for her treatment and they monitored her for over a year.
Clara Buffong, who took part in the project and explains:
“The Salt Cave changed my life. Before I visited the Salt Cave I was on lots of antibiotics and steroids, none of which made me feel much better. I was basically confined to my house, and hated to be around people as my breathing was so noisy. However, this has now changed thanks to salt therapy. I know I will never get completely better, but the Salt Cave lets me live again and manage my illness in a way that I can enjoy my life again. When I walk out of the Salt Cave I feel high on life. I call it my heaven on earth. If salt therapy can work for me it can work for anybody, so I urge all COPD sufferers to give it a go”
From 1st April 2014 everyone who is eligible for NHS Continuing Healthcare funding has the right to apply for Personal Health Budget. If you apply for Personal Health Budget, together with your NHS team (such as a GP) you will develop a care plan. The plan sets out your personal health and wellbeing needs, the health outcomes you want to achieve, the amount of money in the budget and how you are going to spend it. You can use a personal health budget to pay for a wide range of items and services, including therapies, personal care and equipment. New patients found eligible for Continuing Healthcare from 1st April 2014 will also have the same rights.

In clinical trials Salt Therapy (a.k.a. “halotherapy) has proven to be effective in relieving symptoms of a variety of respiratory and skin ailments. During one of the clinical trials, Salt Therapy resulted in improvement of the clinical state in:
(“journal of Aerosol Medicine, A.V. Chervinskaya, Volume 8. Number 3, 1995”)
Amongst dry aerosol technology there are also other types of salt therapy claiming to be just as effective. This is not true.
There are two ways salt therapy is commonly sold: the first is by placing large amounts of salt or salt bricks in a room. The reason this treatment method is not effective is not enough salt can evaporate into the room with the right particle sizes for the different conditions being treated. You would have to spend hours in a room like this to feel any effect and the hundreds of other clients coming in and out would use up the salt air very quickly.
The second method is wet salt therapy. Within this technique a saline solution is evaporated into the air and breathed in by clients. Although this is more effective than the first method the wet salt only reaches the upper airways and sticks to the nose and mouth, not reaching the throat or the deepest part of the lungs and sinuses. This reduces the salt’s phlegm dissolving properties because it doesn’t get to the places where the salt’s effect would be most needed. This is why spending a few days on the beach is less effective than an hour in a dry aerosol salt room.
With our dry salt aerosol technology not only is the salt concentration of the air in the salt room ideal for all clients, but the particle sizes are also calculated to make the therapy as beneficial as possible to everyone whether they are suffering from a skin condition or a disease that affects the deepest part of the lungs.
